Niagara Falls Fireworks & Light Show: 2026 Schedule, Times & Best Views

Updated October 2026 · Written by the Airlink Tours team, who run evening tours from Toronto to the illuminated falls

⚡ Quick answer

Niagara Falls fireworks go off at 10:00 p.m. every night from May 15 to October 12, 2026, and at 8:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights during the Winter Festival of Lights (November 14, 2026 – January 10, 2027). The falls are lit up every night of the year, starting between 4:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. depending on the season. Both shows are free, and the best open-air view is from Queen Victoria Park on the Canadian side.

Most people see Niagara Falls in daylight, take their photos, and head home before dark. That’s a mistake. After sunset, coloured lights wash over both waterfalls, and on many nights fireworks burst over the gorge between them. It’s the same view you saw that afternoon, but it feels like a different place.

This guide covers everything you need to plan an evening at the falls. You’ll find the 2026 fireworks schedule, the light show times for every month of the year, the best places to stand, and how to see it all if you’re coming from Toronto.

Niagara Falls Fireworks Schedule 2026 (Summer, Winter & Holidays)

The Niagara Falls fireworks run every night at 10:00 p.m. from mid-May to mid-October, then return on Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 p.m. during the winter Festival of Lights. A regular show lasts about five minutes. Holiday shows on Canada Day, July 4 and New Year’s Eve stretch to about nine minutes.

It’s billed as Canada’s longest-running fireworks series. Niagara Falls Tourism runs it in partnership with the Niagara Falls Canada Hotel Association and the Niagara Parks Commission.

Summer Fireworks (May to October)

The summer series is the one most visitors catch. For 151 straight nights, from May 15 to October 12, fireworks light up the sky over the Niagara Gorge at 10:00 p.m. They’re launched from inside the gorge, between the American Falls and the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. That puts both waterfalls, already lit in colour, right behind the bursts.

Ten o’clock is later than many families expect. In June and July the sun sets after 8:30 p.m., so the falls only light up about 90 minutes before the show. Plan dinner around 7:30 p.m. and walk down to the park by 9:30 p.m. That way you see the falls change colour at dusk and still have a good spot when the fireworks start.

Winter Fireworks During the Festival of Lights

The fireworks come back for the Winter Festival of Lights, which runs from November 14, 2026 to January 10, 2027. Winter shows start earlier, at 8:00 p.m., on Friday and Saturday nights from November through December.

Last season the schedule also switched to nightly fireworks between Christmas and the first week of January. Niagara Falls Tourism hasn’t published the 2026–27 holiday-week dates yet. If you’re visiting between December 25 and early January, check the official schedule before you travel.

Holiday Fireworks: Canada Day, July 4 & New Year’s Eve

Three nights get a longer, nine-minute show:

  • Canada Day (July 1): the busiest fireworks night of the summer on the Canadian side.
  • Independence Day (July 4): the Canadian show draws a large crowd of American visitors, and many watch from across the river.
  • New Year’s Eve (December 31): two displays, one at 8:00 p.m. for families and one at midnight to ring in the new year.

Victoria Day weekend falls inside the summer series in 2026, since the nightly shows start on May 15. So yes, there are fireworks over the long weekend at the usual 10:00 p.m.

Are There Fireworks at Niagara Falls Tonight?

From May 15 to October 12, yes — every night at 10:00 p.m., unless strong winds force a cancellation. Outside those dates, fireworks only happen on Friday and Saturday nights in November and December (8:00 p.m.), on New Year’s Eve, and during the holiday week if the Festival schedule includes it.

Does Niagara Falls have fireworks every night? Only in summer. From mid-October to mid-November, and from mid-January to mid-May, there are no regular fireworks. The illumination still runs every night, though, so the falls are lit up even when there’s no show.

How to check if tonight’s show is cancelled: wind is the usual reason, because strong gusts can push fireworks off course. Niagara Parks runs an automated message on 1-877-642-7275, and staff along the parkway can tell you too. Cancellations are also posted on Niagara Parks’ social media.

The quick answer to “what time does Niagara Falls light up?” In summer, around 8:30 p.m. In October, around 6:00 p.m. From November through December, as early as 4:30 p.m. That’s why winter is the easiest season to see the lit-up falls with young kids: it’s fully dark by dinnertime.

How Niagara Falls Is Lit Up

The lights come from three places:

  1. The Illumination Tower, next to Queen Victoria Place, facing the falls.
  2. The roof of Table Rock Centre, right at the brink of the Horseshoe Falls.
  3. A position deep in the Niagara Gorge, across from the American Falls.

In 2016 the old Xenon lamps were replaced with LED lights. The new system puts out more than twice the light, and it’s programmable, so the falls can be lit in almost any colour or pattern.

The lights are paid for and run by the Niagara Falls Illumination Board, which has been lighting the falls since 1925 and marked its 100th anniversary on February 24, 2025.

Special Colours and Light Shows

On many nights the falls switch to special colours for about 15 minutes. Charities, national days and awareness causes request these, and they usually run at 10:00 p.m. or 10:15 p.m. Niagara Parks posts the calendar, so you can check whether a colour you care about is coming up.

Two other light experiences are worth knowing about:

  • Currents at the Niagara Parks Power Station is an indoor sound and light show, with 3D projections inside the old generator hall. It runs continuously during the Power Station’s night experience (paid).
  • Laser shows: last winter’s Festival of Lights added a laser show set to music. Check the Festival program to see if it returns for 2026–27.

Best Places to Watch the Niagara Falls Fireworks and Light Show

The best free spot is Queen Victoria Park, on the grassy area or along the stone wall facing both falls. If you want height, go up the Skylon Tower or the Niagara SkyWheel. If you want to be right at the water, the Power Station’s tunnel platform puts you at the river’s edge at the base of the falls.

Where are the fireworks launched from? From inside the Niagara Gorge, between the two falls. Any spot that faces the gorge will see them, but the Canadian side faces both waterfalls head-on.

Parking: Falls Parking, the main lot across from Table Rock Centre, is closest. It fills up early on Canada Day and July 4. The WEGO bus and the Falls Incline Railway (from the Fallsview hotels) save you the hunt for a spot.

Niagara Falls at Night: Things to Do After Dark

Niagara Falls at night is more than a five-minute fireworks show. Clifton Hill stays open late, the Power Station runs evening tours, and in winter the Festival of Lights covers more than 8 km of the tourist district. There’s enough to fill a whole evening.

  • Walk the lit-up falls. The 1 km stretch of the Niagara Parkway from Table Rock to the Rainbow Bridge is the best free walk in the city after dark.
  • Niagara Parks Power Station at night. Go down 180 feet in a glass elevator, walk the 2,200-foot tunnel, and come out on a platform facing the lit-up Horseshoe Falls.
  • Clifton Hill. The SkyWheel, arcades, haunted houses and late-night food, five minutes’ walk from the falls.
  • Dinner with a falls view. The Skylon Tower Revolving Dining Room and the Fallsview hotel restaurants face the falls directly.
  • Winter Festival of Lights (Nov 14 – Jan 10). Light displays run nightly from 5:00 p.m. to midnight, and they’re free. Drive through Dufferin Islands, then walk the parkway. Full guide: Niagara Falls Christmas Lights & Festival of Lights.

Fireworks vs. Falls Illumination vs. Festival of Lights: What’s the Difference?

Simple rule: the illumination happens every night, the fireworks happen on scheduled nights, and the Festival of Lights only runs in winter. The best evenings to visit are summer nights or winter weekends, when all of them line up.

Tips for Watching (and Photographing) the Fireworks

Our guides bring evening groups to the falls every weekend in season. These are the things we tell every group.

  • Arrive 30 minutes early. On Canada Day, July 4 and summer Saturdays, the wall at Queen Victoria Park fills up by 9:30 p.m.
  • Expect mist. Near Table Rock, the spray drifts across the walkway. In winter it freezes on railings and paths, so wear shoes with grip.
  • Dress for the season you’re in. Winter shows are at 8:00 p.m., when it can be well below zero beside the falls.
  • Don’t leave at 10:05 p.m. Wait ten minutes. The crowd thins out and the falls are still lit until 2:00 a.m.
  • Phone photos: turn on night mode, brace your phone on the parapet wall, and take a burst as each shell opens.
  • Camera settings: use a tripod, ISO 100–200, f/8–f/11, and a 2–4 second shutter. Focus manually on the falls before the show starts.
  • Kids: the bangs are loud and echo off the gorge, so ear protection helps young children.

Are there fireworks at Niagara Falls tonight?

Between May 15 and October 12 there are fireworks every night at 10:00 p.m., unless strong winds cancel the show. Outside those dates, fireworks run on Friday and Saturday nights in November and December, and on New Year’s Eve. Call Niagara Parks at 1-877-642-7275 to check for cancellations.

Does Niagara Falls have fireworks every night?

Only during the summer series, from mid-May to mid-October. The rest of the year, fireworks happen on winter weekends during the Festival of Lights and on special dates. The falls illumination, however, runs every single night of the year.

How long do the Niagara Falls fireworks last?

A regular show lasts about five minutes, in both summer and winter. On Canada Day (July 1), U.S. Independence Day (July 4) and New Year’s Eve, the show is extended to about nine minutes.

When does the Niagara Falls fireworks season start and end?

The 2026 summer series runs from Friday, May 15 to Monday, October 12 (Thanksgiving Monday in Canada). The winter fireworks then run during the Festival of Lights, from mid-November through early January.

What time does Niagara Falls light up at night?

The falls light up around dusk: about 8:30 p.m. from mid-May to July, 6:00–6:15 p.m. in October, and 4:30 p.m. in November and December. The lights stay on until 2:00 a.m., or 1:00 a.m. from January to mid-March.

Is Niagara Falls lit up every night?

Yes. The falls are illuminated every night of the year, including winter and holidays, from dusk until 1:00 or 2:00 a.m. The illumination doesn’t depend on the fireworks schedule.

How do they light up Niagara Falls?

LED lights in three places shine on the falls: the Illumination Tower next to Queen Victoria Place, the roof of Table Rock Centre, and a spot deep in the gorge facing the American Falls. The LEDs were installed in 2016. The Niagara Falls Illumination Board has run the lighting since 1925.

Are the Niagara Falls fireworks and light show free?

Yes. Both are completely free to watch from public areas like Queen Victoria Park and Table Rock. You only pay if you choose a paid viewpoint, such as the Skylon Tower, the SkyWheel or the Power Station’s night experience.

Where is the best place to watch the Niagara Falls fireworks?

Queen Victoria Park on the Canadian side is the best free spot. Stand on the lawn or along the stone wall facing both falls. For a view from above, try the Skylon Tower or the Niagara SkyWheel. For a river-level view, the Power Station’s tunnel platform sits at the base of the falls.

Can you see the fireworks from the American side?

Yes. The fireworks are launched from inside the Niagara Gorge, so they’re visible from Niagara Falls State Park in New York. The Canadian side has the better view, though, because it faces both the Horseshoe Falls and the American Falls straight on.

Are there fireworks at Niagara Falls in winter or on New Year’s Eve?

Yes. During the Winter Festival of Lights (November 14, 2026 – January 10, 2027), fireworks go off at 8:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. On New Year’s Eve there are two extended shows, at 8:00 p.m. and at midnight.

Are the fireworks cancelled in bad weather?

Sometimes. Rain usually doesn’t stop the show, but strong winds can, because they push fireworks off course. Niagara Parks posts cancellations on social media and on its automated line, 1-877-642-7275. The illumination still runs on cancelled nights.

Can you see the northern lights from Niagara Falls?

Rarely. The northern lights reach as far south as Niagara only during strong geomagnetic storms, like the one in May 2024. Even then, the falls illumination and city lights make them hard to see. If an aurora alert goes out, head a few kilometres away from the falls to somewhere darker.

Can I see the Niagara Falls fireworks on a tour from Toronto?

Yes. Airlink’s Evening Tour (from $119 CAD) picks you up in Toronto or near Pearson Airport in the early afternoon. It includes free time at the falls from 7:30 p.m. for the illumination and seasonal fireworks, and drops you back in Toronto around 11:30 p.m. Private tours can also be planned around the evening shows.
